Google core update August 2024 – Impacts

15 Aug 2024 was released the August 2024 core update. So we are now 2 weeks after this core update. Lets see whats happened, whats was anounced and what we can see righ now.

So, what Google said before update:

Today, we launched our August 2024 core update to Google Search. This update is designed to continue our work to improve the quality of our search results by showing more content that people find genuinely useful and less content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Search.

This latest update takes into account the feedback we’ve heard from some creators and others over the past few months. As always, we aim to connect people with a range of high quality sites, including small or independent sites that are creating useful, original content, when relevant to users’ searches. This is an area we’ll continue to address in future updates. This update also aims to better capture improvements that sites may have made, so we can continue to show the best of the web.

We’ve also updated our help page about core updates, which includes more in-depth guidance for those who may see changes after an update.

Previous core updates. The previous core update – the March 2024 core update – was the largest core update, according to Google. It started March 5 and completed 45 days later on April 19.

Here’s a timeline and our coverage of recent core updates:

What We Already Know?

My personal thots – im realy happy that it happened. Because its seems like google realized thad they didnt made good job in reacent updates. Big part of websites of competitors in my niche area was gowing in rank last days.

Still if we compere growing and dropping in last two years, we can see that big part of websites still not recovered from last updates in september.

I feel also strange case in my pbns network, which was focused to local querries in EU zone. 60% of small blogs whic was runned 3-4 month before update – now showing growing ~20-30%. And bigger impact i feel mostly in ccTLD domains.

Just a random sample: UK ccTDL PBN

Also i feel growing of local querries instead of national one. I feel it in travel and jewelry niche as well. Big part of my niche in Local directories up a lot. I dont know its about directories that Google loves so much but they growing last days.

Amazon listings growt. Google pretty much prioritizing Amazon linstings right now.

What We Already Know about content?

Ai content still sketchy. I still see a lot of advertising AI content in the SERPs. But I couldn’t find any good examples of good rankings in 1 year. There are many examples that show growth in a short time, but it is insignificant, and only for a few months.

Zombies page without traffic on your website right now make no sens to have. This type of pages better to remove or refresh.

What We Already Know about Link building?

If we talk about backlinks. I dont think links matter that much unless very high authority (EEAT). But i found few samples whem domains with AI content with backlinlks showing better results in serp then just AI content alone. And links quality here was not so fine, but local.
